East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I only knew her for the yearly slain;
and wept and weep until she comes again

The city was magnificent at night. Any city was, really, but this one in particular lit up at night with a different level of sparkle; it was one that couldn't be replicated just anywhere. They say every city has an aura, fueled by the social scene, politics, and demographic of the city. But this city? Various afflictions littered the lives of the inhabitants. From the supernatural spectrum of vamprisim to the spectacular blood of the witches populating their covens and corners of the city to the simple humans that merely dotted their existence without much mind to the activities of their evolutionary counterparts. It was hard to fill the leftover spaces as a Dark Hunter. It was even harder to decide which side to stand on, as if there were any clear-cut choices even available. Could one survive walking a tight rope through life in this city? Were there exceptions that were acceptable, such as pardoning the were-animals who mind their own business and have had no say in their despicable lives? The choices were next to impossible to execute, and that alone made the existence of a hunter far more difficult than the lives of the humans, the vampires, the faeries, the were-animals, and the witches.

Presently, the only thing more difficult than choosing which alliances were most important and beneficial was the act of immersing herself into a society vastly incomparable to anything of her past. Anubis had spent her recent era in the continents of the east, revisiting the lands of her ancient past. How long had it been since she had felt the steps of the fantastical wonders of the ancient world? The arches of Babylon felt impossible, and as if they had never existed. Regardless of how those memories felt, Anubis had traveled to the present East in order to reach some of those memories. The taste of olive leaves and the scent of lemongrass and the myrrh of the terraces beneath the hanging gardens in Babylon surfaced immediately, as if it was only moments before. She had traveled to the Nile, wandering the banks of the incredibly urban sprawl that littered the once pure, pristine world she had been born into. Oh, how it had changed. How the world had ruined the sanctuary of Egypt, of her home. Clearly, humanity was ever the nuisance Anubis assumed it would be, her regard for human life failing her.

It had never occurred to the huntress that she may be supposed to protect the creatures who ruined her home, her kingdom â€" at first. But perhaps the idea that this was the purpose for her continued existence had struck once, and her disregard now felt as if it would ebb with time. And ebb it did. Anubis began practicing the ideals that had been initially instilled in her by her mentors and family during the New Kingdom. When she felt reconnected with her memories, her ideals, and her pursuits, Anubis had begun recollecting an arsenal that felt proper enough to suit her evidently immortal, wavering needs. What she needed to clear her mind of the rubble of her ruins was a target, although she wouldn't have said no to a drink, either.

Instead of a dark bar, Anubis had made herself comfortable riding the Metro from one end of the line to the next, and using the Metro stations as a way to find a target. While seated in the dead center of the train car, she had noticed a creature that was obviously exuding some form of power. Stupid, ignorant individual... Didn't you know someone is always watching?
