Anacosta Heights

Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.

Dupont Circle

Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.

Hawethorn Village

Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.

River Dale

River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.

I never learned how to swim but I guess that's a subject for another time. We lived in the woodlands and the only water was a small lake near our encampment that we drank from. I found solace in the darkness and the trees that would surround me in the forest. It was like they were protecting me from the life I would return to after a hunt. They made a fence around me, feeling me with security as the birds sang and the squirrels chattered. Every time I ran and hid from my father, I would seek out the tallest widest trees, as if looking for the biggest man to protect me. I would cling to its bark as I hid behind it, listening to him yell for me, knowing that I would go back but for the moment, I was safe.

His voice brings me back to the present, his tone so full of incredulous disbelief as I shrug lightly and shake my head.

"No, never."

I confirm. His voice is rather loud in the house but I don't find myself cringing away from it as I might anyone else's. I wonder what his relationship with his feline partner is. Does he confide in him? Does the cat speak back? I've read about them and seen them in movies. Does his friend rub against his legs and make a meow song for its food? That would be cute. I find myself smiling at the mere thought. He leans back a little as we start talking about my past and I appreciate the gesture. The thought of my inner scars haunts me every night and I try to forget about it during the day but of course reminders are everywhere. His words do soothe me though and I nod in agreement. As he stares into the fire, I follow his gaze, caught up in the majesty of the flames. The next time he speaks has me shift a little. I didn't expect him to say that. My brow rises and I scowl a little.

"You're much stronger than I am. You fight back."
