East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I can sense her apprehension in the post math of introducing herself but I must say, she did an amazing job of saying it with plenty of confidence. Looking around, I am impressed by what she's managed to establish here. She's a queen who's already surrounded by loyal followers and owns her own bustling business if tonight is anything to go by. There's rarely an empty seat in this place, at least tonight. Everyone seems happy and entertained. If she can do that with a business, that's a good future for a fairy monarchy if you ask me.

I watch the color rush to her cheeks and my hazel eyes glitter automatically. A flustered queen? I don't think I've ever been able to fluster anyone of such a high rank. She seems taken aback by my genuine respect for her title, telling me that it means a lot that I didn't laugh at her. I shrug lightly. "Hierarchy should always be respected lest we all fall to chaos." I tilt my head. "I would say being a queen is pretty important. It's not everyday that someone wakes up and decides to lead a group of people."

I'm not ashamed or irritated that she noticed my gun. I just don't want it on full display to everyone in the burlesque lest the wrong kinds of people be present. She seems to understand my motivation behind having a gun though. I'm sure she has her own ways of keeping her security close at hand. I don't see any guards at the moment but maybe they're just good at cloaking. I've heard of fairies hired just for such a skill.

She agrees that I'll find plenty of supernaturals before admitting that she wasn't always a fairy. My brow lifts at this new knowledge, reaching over to take another sip of my drink. I've always been a good listener so I give her my full attention. So she was a human before. Her instincts make more sense now. I scowl and run a hand through my hair. "I'm sorry to hear that. Not a good welcome into this world, I'm sure. I was born fairy so I don't know your hardships but I am genuinely apologetic that you had to become like us that way." My features soften as she winces at the bad memories.

She then tells me that she saved someone else from being attacked and that's what convinced her that she needs to step up and do something. I smirk knowingly. "Sounds like good motivation to me. I'm not the ruling type but I want to make change in my own way. I wish you all the luck in that." She tells me that she's been here two years and likes it. I guess that means she plans on staying. I nod, my own gaze distant for a moment. It's been a long ass time since I've felt anything close to home. Maybe back when my brother was still at my side. At least then I had someone to look out for, a purpose. When dad was with us hunting, when we could watch each other's backs. That was home. Lately I've only felt more lost than anything.

I shrug at her question. "I guess we'll find out. I like what I see so far." I smile charmingly at her. Yeah, maybe that was a little bit of innocent flirting but I'm also talking about the town and the burlesque. If this is anything like the rest of my trip's going to be, maybe it won't be so bad after all. I'll get my cheap hotel room and see what hunting there is to do here. Maybe I'll even make a friend or two. I hope I can at least make her that, if nothing else.
