East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

we stopped checking for monsters under our beds,

when we realized they were inside of us all along.

He almost didn't notice her faint touch at first.

Her finger slides along his scarred face and he tenses, eyes narrowing as he glances sideways at her. That finger laced with blood slides into her lips and he feels a heat flow through his body. She savors the taste, savors him and his own lips twitch in a slight smirk, almost unnoticeable underneath his beard. She started this, she touched first breaking the unspoken rule he hardly follows. He had asked permission, watching warily as she darts away from his grasp. One brow lifts in confusion, head lifting from its downward position to look upon her again. A moment of silence, and he looks from his hand to her in impatience. His eyes begin to fog, the voices are returning.

"kill, kill, kill" they begin as whispers, slowly building into a frenzy. They want to add to the collection and he wants to obey. His eyes close, head pounding as ears begin to ring. He cannot hear her, or see her but after what seems like eternity he can feel her. She draws near, sliding into his grasp. He is gentle, that open palm coming to wrap around her waist slowly and pull him to her like a stuffed animal. She can fight him, push away and run, leave him to his fits and allow him to drown in his sea of hell. He has handled it before, he can handle it again...

If she stays though, he would cradle her to him, his body hot as the fight within him rages. He has begun to sweat, the liquid mixing with the now fresh blood that leaks from his ears. He breathes, head lifting to rest upon her own as he inhale her scent. It mixes with her feline, smelling of earth and danger. "just...stay..." his deep voice breaks, teeth gritting as he begins to get a handle on himself. He does not squeeze her body, simply holds her to him like an anchor to a ship. The reality is stronger than his own consciousness. The knives along her leather frame pushing against his chest and one knicks him, his eyes finally open as if the knife broke the spell. He breathes again, hands falling from her body heavily as he leans back against the bench, head falling back as fingers rub his eyes. Its good she cannot speak, her words would only aggravate the irritated cat more. Its calming almost. Her silence, her presence calming and almost enough to completely drown out the voices. No, they will linger there until he satiates their hunger or until they roar again. For now, he is okay once more.

A deep sigh, and he slides to the side of the bench away from her, allowing her the space she might want taking note of how hesitant she was to originally draw near to him. He turns slightly, looking back at her as his head rests against the back of the bench, the viking appears tired, but content. "thank you," he says casually, words he rarely ever says. No, normally he would have snarled, fought destroyed anyone who drew near during his fit. But not this time, he resisted and with her help, he won.

One day he would still get her back for kicking his ass though.
