East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I know well how our kind is often seen as. When people hear the word fairy, they think of Thumbalina and Neverland, or fairy dust and dancing. The truth is that our kind is one of the oldest in warfare and destruction. We flew over battle fields and brought death down on our enemies from above where they would never expect it. We are unassuming because of our appearance, our cute pointed ears and glowing skin but we are like a wolf in lamb's clothing. We are the predator within the diguise of prey. I play my part well as the foolish man who only thinks of bacon cheeseburgers and driving my baby around town but there's so much more to me than that behind the scenes. I wear a mask well.

I know that the women with fairy blood in their veins are nothing to be scoffed at. They are usually the war lords and conquerors, the queens of domination. Most of the time, they are worse than the men. That's why I do not look upon the pretty blonde with anything more than curiosity and respect. I can feel a sense of authority in her voice, though well disguised behind her shaky hands and quivering smile. That's smart of her to get to know her audience, to know when there's a stranger in the midst. There are dark fairies out there, followers of the ancient order who believe there is a line of black and white in our race, that whosoever cannot follow their way must be extinguished to save the fairy species as a whole. They are very misled but that doesn't make them any less strong.

While I have been around long enough to know the playboy card doesn't always work, I'm also very much a man and I can't help but appreciate the finer things in life. Samantha, as she calls herself, is certainly a fine thing. I don't try to hide my once over of her figure. I think it's disrespectful not to show a woman she's beautiful when it's so obvious. She seems to sense my caution, telling me she only wants to say hi. I nod in acknowledgement. We shake hands and she seems to relax a little as I tell her my name. She welcomes me to Sacrosanct and as her gazes drifts to the stage, she tells me more important information, that she's a queen here. My eyes widen slightly and I lean back a little.

"Well, now I'm impressed. The first I happen to come across and she turns out to be more important than I think even she knows. It's an honor, my queen." I bow my head respectfully to her, my hazel eyes shining genuinely. I'm not the type to be sarcastic when it comes to heirarchy. I've lived long enough to know the importance of one's place in this world. Traveling from town to town has made me learn to adapt quickly and learn the local ranks everywhere I go. I can usually run into a higher ranked officer or two but it's a rare occasion that I meet the one in charge. She's brave to be so upfront but I applaud her trust in me.

I notice her gaze wandering and I'm quick to move my jacket just enough to cover the gun more. "A sense of security. You never can be too careful." I say in a softer voice. I'm sure she'll understand. Fairies may be thought of as weak but other species like to prey on the weak. Our blood is like ecstacy to vampires and I don't take any chances with that kind. I glance up at her question, watching her twirl the hair around her finger for a second as if mesmerized before I focus back on her face. I guess I have some human traits wired into me as well but only because I've trained myself to do them. She just seems more natural somehow, as if it were more than mere training. I wonder to myself just how long she's been a fairy.

"Stories of creatures no one could explain roaming the streets. I tend to gravitate toward the supernatural. It's almost a duty to make sure the boundaries between humans and supernatural stays clear." I shrug lightly, wodnering if she'll consider me foolish for thinking I can make a difference. I usually don't tell others so clearly what I do and while I might not have just blurted it out, I did give a pretty big hint. I smirk a little. "How long have you been here?"
