East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

we stopped checking for monsters under our beds,

when we realized they were inside of us all along.

The park is so dimly lit you can hardly make out the brooding beast sitting on the bench there hunched over a book as if his very life depending upon it. Muscled, tattooed body seemed to spasm as he fights an inner battle no one can truly see. The thoughts, the voices, they plague him this night demanding things he is unable to give them. Mind begins to unravel, eyes shut as he clenches the book in his hands. His jaw clenches, teeth grinding together to fight the urge to snap completely. Anger flows from him in waves, death a thing he only dreams of for living is such a curse.

Yet he continues to live.

His breathing slows, blood falling slightly from his ears to drip into his beard. His scarred face relaxes, steam rising from his sweaty, shirtless frame. It had become uncomfortable for him to wear and while during his small fight he had removed it. How subtle his battle within is, just appearing like a beast trapped in deep thought to outward eyes. But it was much more than that and it was reoccurring far too often for his tastes.

But then again, if he could have it his way he would have left this earth years ago, following the line of his brothers and dying in a battle worthy of death.

He breathes, his action slow and deliberate as the voices settle. Each and every time he disobeys their commands and ignores their demands, a piece of him is taken. For now, a headache remains in their wake and on cue his thumb and pointer finger release the book to put a lovely bit of pressure on his temples. He rubs, a rough sigh falling from his lips. He will get no sleep this night, they will return once again before dawn. But in this brief moment of partial peace, he can smell the presence of another and once again, the werelion grits his teeth.
