East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I have secrets no else knows. I bet no one would think that I would keep a journal but I have my whole life, even before I was turned. I've always written about everything from my parents, the civil war, Katherine coming into the lives of my brother and I all the way through being turned and wanting to end my life for good before my brother forced me to drink and become the monster we both still are today. I've written about it all and I still do. It knows about the coven Isolt and I created and Red on the Water. It knows about me leaving because of the New Eden and I even wrote about my capture, once I got loose of course.

I wrote about returning to find Isolt in charge of everything like the goddess she is and how she's making the coven and the pub thrive now. It's like a garden coming to life under the loving care of its gardener. She really is something. I often go back and read my journals when I need to remember something more in detail or when I think I may have mised something after I have more information. Reading is a very old pastime for me and while I don't get lost in books like I used to, I still do enjoy their company. The smell of books is soothing to me and being in this book store reminds me of that.

The girl in front of me looks absolutely captivated by that book she's reading and I'm almost sorry to disturb her but I must know if it's Yumi. I haven't seen her since returning and while I know I've been busy with Isolt, I want to get back in touch with friends as well. When I call her name though, she lets out a cry and presses the book to her chest. She looks at me in a fright at first but as she takes me in, I see the recognition flash in her eyes. My lips crinkle in the corners as I tilt my head a little, giving her time.

She says my name then but her brows furrow as if puzzled by something. My own brows furrow to match. "Is something troubling you? Am I not supposed to be here?" I ask, trying to read her expression. She asks if I'm looking for something and I chuckle a little. "Well yes, actually. I was looking for you. I should have known I would find you in the world of books." I smirk knowingly, my eyes twinkling with mischief.

She seems lost in thought for a moment before she suddenly ducks her head, her cheeks flaring and my smirk grows. "Ah, Yumi, does this mean you missed me?" I can't help but ask in a teasing voice. She asks me next if things are okay with Isolt and I'm reminded of the incident with the desk in her office. My brow rises and my eyes darken for a moment before I chuckle and nod. "Yes, I would say they're more than okay."

When she asks if I'm looking for something for her, I smile. "I believe I've got the best thing for her for now but I never hesitate to get something if I think she'd like it. Why? Do you have a special book in mind you think she'd like?" Even as I say the first part, my fingers find the ring in my jeans pocket and I hold it for a moment before releasing it, knowing that the time to present it to her is coming soon. I wait for her answer before I nudge my head toward the book still pressed against her chest. "You seem quite interested in that book, I might add. Would you like me to buy it for you? Call it a gift between friends." I smile softly. "I did miss you, Yumi. We need to catch up. I want to know everything you've been up."
